Back in August of 2001 during the PowerHockey World Cup event, disabled filmmaker Shane Pullar came to Minnesota looking to make a documentary of the International event. Shane interviewed players, coaches and organizers during the event and captured some great game footage. Shane's company GimpPower Productions based in Las Vegas has completed the film named "Play On". It was officially released to the U.S. EWHA this past fall. We have now begun distributing it to teams, sponsors and fans of PowerHockey. If you would like a copy please contact us. GimpPower Productions is submitting the film to various film festivals around the country.
The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation (CRPF) has announced that the U.S. Electric Wheelchair Hockey Association (U.S. EWHA) has been awarded a $10,000 Health Promotion Grant. CRPF awarded $257,500 in Health Promotion Grants to 27 organizations nationwide that improve opportunities, access and day-to-day quality of life for families and individuals living with disabilities. The grants, awarded twice yearly, recognize programs that enable people with disabilities to live independent and active lives by seeking to remove societal and environmental barriers that limit the abilities of individuals living with paralysis. The U.S. EWHA returned from a very successful promotional trip to Chicago, IL, August 16-18, where the organization participated in the "Abilities Expo". The "Abilities Expo" is a convention where leading national companies and organizations display their accessible products and services for the disabled community.
At this event the Minnesota Stars and Saint Paul Saints PowerHockey teams competed in five exhibition games, which drew large crowds throughout the weekend. The Saint Paul Saints shocked the top ranked Minnesota Stars by beating them once and forcing a tie in another game. In addition to playing exhibition games, members of both Minnesota teams took time to introduce and teach the game of PowerHockey to disabled children from around the Midwest, who were visiting the event.
The Minnesota Division completed its 6th regular season in October. The Clash finished the regular season on top, but the Storm took home the Championship. The Championship day was held at the University of Minnesota Bierman Athletic Complex . All five Minnesota Division teams participated in the tournament style event. This was the Storm's first Minnesota Championship. Check out details at http://www.powerhockey.com/minnesota/index.html
The 6th Annual U.S. EWHA Golf Tournament was a great success. The event was held at the Links at NorthFork in Ramsey, Minnesota. Thanks to over 100 golfers and 35 sponsors we raised a record amount (just over $10,000) for PowerHockey Programs. A special thank you to our 2002 golf corporate sponsors. Visit our golf tourney page located at PowerHockey.com. On the main page, click on the golf logo near the bottom.
We are already in the planning stages for next year's event and have a goal to raise $15,000. So if you know anyone interested in golf or sponsoring fun events let them know about PowerHockey and have them contact us.
